- AI TeacherGood one — this is a non-monic quadratic, so let's not jump to the formula. First: what two numbers multiply to 2 × (−15) = −30 and add to −7?

- AI TeacherExactly. Split the middle term: 2x² − 10x + 3x − 15 = 0. Now factorise in pairs — what comes out of the first pair?
- Amara2x(x − 5) + 3(x − 5)
- AI TeacherPerfect, so (2x + 3)(x − 5) = 0 and x = −3/2 or x = 5. On Edexcel Paper 1 that's 3 marks: one for a valid factorising method, one for each solution. Want a 5-question drill on non-monic quadratics?
